While addressing beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) through video conference in Delhi a day back, PM Narendra Modi said that the Union Government is striving hard to free the housing sector from corruption and middlemen. Modi also said that this will ensure that people should get their own houses without facing troubles.
He also ensured that with the use of latest technology the government is building more affordable houses for the poor in rural and urban areas at a faster rate.
Speaking on occasion he said, “PMAY is linked with the dignity of our citizens. Due to PMAY, there are employment opportunities being created for the people. At the same time, we are working on skill development to enable faster and better quality construction of the houses.”
He further said the focus is also on to ensure more women, ‘divyang’ (differently-abled), other backward class people and minority communities to get access to housing.
The government is working hard on its ambitious mission of ‘Housing for all by 2022’. In this line, they have so far given sanctions to build more than 47 lakh houses in urban areas which is much larger than what earlier government has given. In the same way in rural areas, the govt has given sanction to more than one crore houses.
PM also said that with the use of latest technologies in the housing sector, they have also reduced the time needed to build a house from 18 months to 12 months.
In order to attract more and more people to buy their own dream home through government’s affordable housing scheme, the financial assistance has also been enhanced up to Rs 1, 25,000 from the earlier allocation of Rs 70,000 – Rs 75,000.
