The issue of converting leasehold into freehold is an issue that is making headlines from the past sometime. In regard with the same, the UT administration is going to discuss the matter with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) post general elections.

Earlier, the administration finalized the proposal to convert leasehold properties into freehold in the Industrial Area phases I and II.

One of the senior UT officials said that all documents are prepared by them to hold discussion with the ministry officials. The UT administration will notify the conversation rates after getting approval from the housing ministry.

Earlier, the Chandigarh administration formed two separate committees on the issue out of which one focused on the pending demands of the industrialists and the other represented traders demand.

The plots are governed by zoning and architectural control prepared as per the conditions prevailing at the time.

Earlier in February, the UT administration considered the long-pending demand of the city industrialists for transferring leasehold properties into freehold which had been forwarded to the union ministry of home affairs [MHA].

The industrialists demand transfer of the same in the Industrial area phase I and II.

Kirron Kher, the Member of Parliament informed that the issue of transferring leasehold properties to freehold has been forwarded to the center and action on the same will be taken soon.

Few days later, the UT administration finalized the proposal for the same.

Later in march, the meeting between UT officials and the Ministry of Housing was planned but the notification of general elections 2019 is believed to be the reason behind postponing the same.
