In a recent development, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has approved a budget to link the proposed Jewar Airport with Greater Noida. The Authority has given an approval of Rs 6,869 crore to develop two metro corridors that will provide a smooth ride to the passengers and commuters traveling between the two localities.
According to YEIDA officials, both these lines will start from Greater Noida’s Knowledge Park-II. Of these, one will be developed on the lines of DMRC Airport express which means exclusively dedicated to Jewar Airport and the other will connect the residential, commercial and industrial sectors alongside Yamuna Expressway.
The above approval was given in the 65th Board Meeting of the YEIDA.
Elaborating more on the above, YEIDA CEO Arun Vir Singh said, “The board has approved the proposal to link Metro with the upcoming Jewar Airport. We will now send it to the state government for further approval. The two new metro rail lines will have dedicated tracks, one for taking passengers directly to the Jewar airport and the other for commutation within the sectors along Yamuna Expressway.”
He further informed that the authority has set a deadline to complete the metro project by 2023 so that both the airport and the metro corridors would be launched on the same day.
As per the plan, these metro lines will cover a distance of 35.64 Km. For the exclusive metro line; the passengers don’t have to change any metro till the Jewar Airport.
However, for the second metro corridor, a total of 25 stations will be developed. Of which the first eight stations will come under Greater Noida Authority while rest 17 stations will fall under YEIDA. Stations starting from Knowledge Park-II till Yamuna expressway Green belt will be elevated, while the Jewar Airport Terminal will be underground. The proposed distance between the two stations will be 1-1.5 km.
The name of the proposed 25 stations will be Knowledge Park-II, Chi-I, Chi-II, Chi-III, Chi-IV, Murshadpur, Yamuna Authority’s Sector 26 A, Gautam Budh University, Night Safari, Noida International University, Sector 17 A, Sports City, sectors 22 A, 22 B, Sector 18 A, Sector 22 C, sectors 19, 18, 2, 20, 21, 28, 29, Galgotias University, Nagla Hukum Singh and Jewar Airport.
Last month only, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has submitted their detailed Project Report (DPR) to YEIDA on the metro link till Jewar Airport. Once operational, the metro authorities are expecting a daily ridership of over 82,000 commuters collectively on these two lines.
