Trichy Corporation

The Trichy Corporation Body has asked FRCRWA [Federation of Trichy City Residents Welfare Associations] to withdraw the revised proposal in property tax. In the meeting that held recently, the federation also asked the Civic Body and district administration to find out a suitable location in order to build an integrated bus terminus (IBT). This bus terminal will prove beneficial to make city congestion-free.

On 21st September the civic body has notified the revised property tax slabs by segregating 65 wards under zone A (properties on main roads), zone B (properties near main roads),and zone C (properties away from main roads). This revision of property tax slabs took place after 10 years and the slab ranges from 67% to 87% for the new assessments with effect from April 2018.

Although, the decision to revise tax slabs is not going well with the Resident Welfare Associations [RWA] and they are calling this move unfair.

Earlier, the Trichy Corporation launched Point of Sale [POS]-enabled tax collection system in order to ease the property tax payment. This process will help the residents in the payment of property tax and there are total 11 POS-centers in the city. The POS system is launched in collaboration with Union Bank.

According to an official, 36 tax collection centres are set up which include the zonal offices of Trichy Corporation and the private banks that went into an agreement with the urban local body [ULB]. Apart from the tax collection centers in 65 wards, the urban local bodies can also receive payments online as the property owners can visit for making payments.

Also, after collecting 75% property tax in the first fiscal quarter of 2018-19 the Trichy Corporation now plans to carry out special measures and awareness drives for the collection of outstanding taxes and water charges. The Municipal Corporation of the city urged the residents to make use of online tax payment method and also said that the collection of these taxes is important as the corporation can only meet various expenditures via this money in order to elevate city’s infrastructure and amenities.
