To fuel up the needs and demand of student housing in India, top startups have now started foraying their legs into this segment. This has been revealed in the latest research report according to which the top 10 student housing service providers are today collectively operating slightly over 75,000 beds with plans to touch nearly 2 lakh by 2020.
Among them, the major service providers include Tribestays, PLACIO, Oxfordcaps, Campus Student Communities, Housr, Stanza Living, and Simplyguest. Most of them operate from various student-centric cities like Bangalore, Delhi, Noida, Mumbai, Pune, Indore, Dehradun, Jaipur, and Ahmedabad.
In recent years, student housing has gained much momentum in the Indian realty market. Students from around the world and the Indian cities are moving to major education hubs for perusing higher education in various fields. This is the major reason that has pushed these startups to focus on student housing.
Elaborating more on the demand of student housing, a senior real estate expert said, “Today the need of student housing varies from affordable to luxury units. The students want to stay away from the regular PG accommodation and want to live in a place which is full of amenities, good community as well as tech-enabled too.”
These service providers are not only playing on the technology part but are also targeting the students by providing them a home-like feeling with thematic, fun and aesthetic rooms. Apart from them, these housing units are also comprised of study halls, activity rooms, and gaming zones.
The expert further said that with limited units left for students in various university’s hostels and residential facilities, the demand for student housing has crossed to millions across the education-centric cities. In fact, these universities, facilities management, staffing today are associating themselves with these startups to fulfill the demand of the migrant students.
