The Shahberi area residents are facing heat over the demolition drive currently and six people, including a minor, got injured allegedly in the police action recently when they were protesting at the office of Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA).

These homebuyers gathered outside the GNIDA’s office to mark their protest against the Government move to bring down illegal construction in Shahberi.

However, the police said that they were prompted to use force for the protection of Government and also to minimize the chance of ruckus in the premises. The homebuyers on the other hand said that the police baton-charged on a peaceful demonstration.

Vaibhav Krishna, Senior Superintendent of Police, Gautam Buddh Nagar said that there was no lathi-charge but yes mild force was used to remove the protestors. It was done to prevent their misdemeanour of locking down the Greater Noida Authority office. The protestors were removed using force to prevent further ruckus and ensure working of the Greater Noida Authority. Some of them might have got hurt in the action, if at all any one was injured.

In July last year, two adjoining buildings collapsed in the Shahberi village killed nine people. Being in the jurisdiction of Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority [GNIDA] this incident threw light on various illegal structures and least safety features in the buildings.

The Uttar Pradesh Government recently announced that stringent actions will be taken against the developers for selling properties illegally in the area. The Government also talked about a safety audit of multi-storey structures in the area and to bring down the unauthorized structures.

Last month, GNIDA figured out more than 1,450 illegal buildings in Shahberi village in the recently conducted survey. The Google Earth images revealed that all these establishments were developed between 2014 and 2018, the officials said.

According to the survey, out of the 1,453 unauthorized buildings in Shahberi 426 are residential structures with three or more floors in the builder apartments.  Also, there are 1,022 buildings with ground plus two floors that are likely to be the part of builder apartments or have been developed for personal use.

Apart from these, there are five commercial buildings that have shops of daily needs, garments, photocopy and medicines, the survey report shows.
