The Ludhiana Civic body added a new link on its website that will offer all property-related information to the residents in just one click. The property owners can now access the records of property tax file and more. The civic body took this decision in order to make the system more transparent and to make the process hassle-free.
The owners just have to fill in their property tax return number or UNI i.e. unique identity number of the property. This will allow the residents to check returns filed without going to the office. With this facility, the owners can also know if their returns are updated in the record book of the Municipal Corporation.
On the submission of property tax return number, the person can fetch details like amount paid year-wise along with the location where the property location and its complete address. The Municipal Corporation can also keep the tab of tax-payers as they can check the previous years record of the same.
The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation also made the UNI [Unique Identity Numbers] compulsory in 17 blocks and connected all the services with the same number. UNI is the unique number issued any property in the city as there are more than four lakh properties in the city according to the GIS survey that was carried out by the civic body via Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC).
Vivek Verma, MC Superintendent said that sometimes the public complained to us about non-updation of their return in the record books and for receiving unnecessary notice. Hence, we have introduced this system so that people can check record updation from anywhere without walking down to the office of the civic body. Also, this process will make us trace the tax defaulters easily.
One of the city residents said that we welcome the move and the same process should be started for water supply and sewage dues. The residents further said that such a procedure should be introduced for TS-1, birth and death certificates, or change of ownership and more as we need to visit Suvidha centres to receive the same.
The imposition of property tax took place in the city in 2013 and the officials claim to make positive changes in the system since then. However, the filing of property tax has shirked since 2013.
