The NTKDA i.e. New Town Kolkata Development Authority offered relief to the property owners including all residential, commercial and educational in order to deposit the first quarter of unit area assessment-based property tax. The authority has extended the deadline from 2nd August to 2nd September. However, the property owners failing to pay the tax within this extended deadline will be slapped with a penalty of 30% of the amount.
The property owners failing to pay the tax by 2nd August have to deposit the same with 10% penalty till the last date notified by the New Town Kolkata Development Authority. After the introduction of new UAA-based system, the New Town Kolkata Development Authority has earned nearly Rs 24 crore from property the tax. The authority has first set 2nd June as the last date for self-assessment and submission of property tax for the first quarter which was later extended till 2nd August on the request of several property owners as some are NRIs or are living in other states and now the property owners can deposit the same till September 2nd.
The implantation of a new policy from April this year is receiving positive a response and the tax collection on a whole has been satisfactory as per one of the officials at NKDA. Earlier, the New Town Kolkata Development Authority collected Rs. 20 Crores as property tax till 2nd June because only 18,000 taxpayers paid the due in time out of total 40,000 property owners in Kolkata.
The New Town Kolkata Development Authority [NTKDA] formed two-civic teams to create awareness amongst the property owners about new UAA-based assessment and these teams have also visited various high-rise complexes and independent homes of the town. NTKDA also set up a help desk to make the property owners aware of the process in which the online tax payment has to be made.
