To teach a strict lesson to Property tax defaulters and evaders, the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Kolkata has decided to levy strict penalties on such homeowners. According to the officials, the defaulters have to face 15 tax penalties if they will not pay their pending dues by September 30, 2019.
The decision has been made in a recently held meeting where the officials planned to impose the above tax penalties. Despite sending repeated reminders to homeowners, they haven’t turned up to pay the pending dues. Because of this only, the authority has decided to issue stricter norms and penalties this time so that they can recover the property tax from them.
Elaborating on the above, a senior BMC official said, “Due to the scarcity of funds and non-submission of property tax by the property owners, the development of the area has stopped midway. In lieu of this, we have decided to tighten up the defaulters so as to collect the tax arrears and overcome the funding problem.”
He further informed that money collected through these penalties will also help in expediting the pace of various infrastructure projects in the city.
Apart from this, to improve the urban infrastructure, the authority has also planned to implement multiple new schemes. At the same time, BMC has planned to launch an online portal for the approval of Building plan. For this, the administration has decided to provide necessary training to all the employees so that schemes can be implemented well and provide relief to the property owners.
