In an effort to strengthen its Affordable housing scheme, Central government has given nod for the construction of over 1.86 lakh more houses under its popular PMAY-Urban scheme with an investment of Rs.11, 169cr with central assistance of Rs. 2,797 cr. The approval was given in a meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee.
After the meeting, a press release was issued giving information about the major announcements related to every state. According to release, Haryana has been sanctioned a maximum of 53,290 houses in 38 cities and towns with an investment of Rs.4,322cr and central assistance of Rs.799 cr. While Tamil Nadu stood second, with 40,623 houses in 65 cities and towns with an investment of Rs.2,314cr and central assistance of Rs.609 cr. The list was followed by states- Karnataka, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala, Uttarakhand and Orissa.
“With the above proposed houses, cumulative houses under PMAY (Urban) would become 37,83,392 after final approval from CSMC.”, the press release said.
Further after subsuming projects of Rajiv Gandhi Awas Yoajna (RAY), the total number of houses being funded under PMAY(Urban) would be 39.25 lakh houses.
