The PCMC [Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation] has scheduled to lay the Smart City plan before the General body on August 20. A 750Km long optical fibre network along with CCTV installation to monitor traffic congestion, 270 Wi-Fi spots, 60 Smart City Kiosks and 150 variable message displays will be laid by the civic body under the smart city plan.
Shravan Hardikar, the Municipal Commissioner said that the authority has received Rs. 593.67 crore for area-wise development which also includes areas likes Pimple Saudagar and Wakad. Apart from this, the civic body has also received Rs. 555.53 crore for pan-city development and the entire smart city project will be carried out under the Private Public Partnership [PPP] model. The variable display messages will broadcast real-time information on traffic status, emergency services and other city-related issues.
A Special Purpose Vehicle has also started for the implementation of the smart city project. Also, the PCSCL i.e. Pimpri Chinchwad Smart City Limited will receive financial assistance of worth Rs 500 crore from the Central Government and Rs 250 crore each from the State Government and PCMC for five years.
Earlier, the plan to construct affordable housing units and Online property tax collection are some of the things that have laid the development plan in Pimpri Chinchwad region. The PCMC has planned to build 550+ affordable housing units for the belonging to the economically weaker section. These affordable homes are planned to be built at Akurdi under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana [PMAY].
It is estimated that nearly 60% of the property tax this year and been collected online. Earlier, Dilip Gawde, Additional Commissioner of the city confirmed of receiving Rs 162.63 crores property tax from the residents via the online portal.
