The Ludhiana Civic body collected Rs.1.25 crores on the last day of the financial year 2018-19. The office of Municipal Corporation was kept open on Sunday that was 31st March to collect property tax due.
The officials of Ludhiana Civic body claims to collect approximately Rs.76.5 crore in the financial year till now however the final figure will only be known after the calculation of online and manual collection is checked.
On Sunday, there was a huge rush at the office of Municipal Corporation where 2,439 tax returns were filed and 601 out of these returns were filed online. Vivek Verma, MC superintendent said that they have collected approximately Rs7-8 crore more in comparison to the last year.
He also informed that online payment and manual collection will be calculated in next two days.
The Ludhiana civic body aimed to collect Rs. 90 crore from property tax in the financial year 2018-19 but could not achieve the target. The officials at the Municipal Corporation said that election duty and a shortage of manpower are the main reasons for falling short to meet the target.
Earlier in March, the Ludhiana Civic body introduced a new feature on their website that will provide all property-related information to the residents simply in one click. The property owners in the city now have access to the property tax file records and more just a click away. This featured was added by the civic body to bring in more transparency in the system.
The owners only have to fill their property tax return number or UNI i.e. unique identity number of the property to carry out the procedure.
