Link Urban Properties to Aadhaar CardIn a recent development, it has been revealed that the UP Government led by CM Yogi Adityanath is planning to link all the properties situated in urban areas to the Aadhaar cards of the owners. The implementation will be done under a new scheme- Urban Properties Ownership Record (UPOR) Scheme.

The UP government has prepared this scheme on the lines of Karnataka where the urban properties have been linked to the owner’s Aadhaar card.

According to a senior Government official, the implementation of the scheme will help in identifying ‘benami’ properties, multiple properties and at the same time will also increase tax collection in various Municipal Corporations.

Reportedly, the scheme is being implemented on the initiative of K. V. Raju who is the financial advisor to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. At present, most of the municipal corporations do not have proper data of property ownership within their Municipal limits. This often leads to legal disputes in these areas when it comes to property tax collection.

The senior official further informed, “The scheme is still in its initial phases and will be implemented in Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Ghaziabad, Varanasi, Meerut and Prayagraj at first.”

He also revealed that the government will take technical help from the Survey of India to prepare the data. They will also set up a high powered committee under the chairmanship of a retired IAS officer. Other officers who will also be the part of this committee include representatives from various departments including Planning, Urban and Rural Development, development authorities and Municipal bodies.
