The Thiruvananthapuram city corporation decided to offer tax relaxation on the construction that includes green features. This announcement was made in the financial budget for 2019-20.

The corporation has introduced ‘Green Trivandrum’, project in the city and this will offer a tax rebate to the green building that are being developed with the use of eco-friendly material. However, the corporation is yet to decide the rate deduction slab that will be offered to these constructions.

The city corporation is also banking upon the schemes sponsored by the Central Government to introduce environment-friendly projects in the city. The vehicles running on alternative fuels will also be introduced near Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple at an estimated cost of Rs. 50 lakh.

Under the Smart city mission, E-auto scheme will also be launched and this will have a reserved quota for women and transgender people. Another scheme will also be allotted to the transgender people that aim to offer accommodation to these people and will also run as a development centre.

The Smart city Thiruvananthapuram limited has started inviting tenders to procure 15 e-autos and 15 e-rickshaws in the city.

This budget also supports Green Protocol and all the children enrolled in Class I in public educational institutions are planned to have steel plates and water bottles under the scheme ‘Little Gift’. This proposal is estimated to cost Rs. 50 lakh. The Green Army is working under the health wing for the promotion and implementation of Green Protocol in events. This will also be prepared under Green Events project to have sync with Green Protocol.

Apart from the green initiative, the budget also declared schemes to facilitate residents’ associations with Suchitwa awards. The corporation has set a budget of Rs. 5 lakh for the same and She Lodge scheme is also planned to be expanded to Therakom, Kadakampally and Medical College.

A modern crematorium is also planned to be founded at Thiruvallom. Mayor V K Prasanth informed that we have identified a land parcel in Thiruvallom and the work on the same is in progress.

Five parks of the city will also be converted as elder-friendly parks and this is estimated to cost Rs. 60 lakh. These five parks include DPI Ulloor Park, Poojapura Island Park, AKG park, park at Housing Board Junction and Mudavanmugal Park.
