MCG i.e. the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram is all set to carry out a regular sealing drive in coming few weeks in order to toughen its stand on ongoing constructions in the city. This decision came few days after a building collapsed in Old Gurugram because off an illegal basement.

One of the MCG officials said that despite our efforts, the illegal constructions are increasing day by day in the city. Thus, a demolition drive is needed to curb the rapidly increasing illegal structures.

The details of demolition drive were not uploaded on the official website but approximately 40 properties were sealed in the city after the drive carried out later in the last week.

The sources said that over 90 percent buildings in the city don’t have occupation certificates, whereas till now the MCG issued 20,000 occupation certificates (OCs) to the building owners. But still a minimum of 1.2 lakh structures under the jurisdiction of the municipal corporation don’t have OCs.

The maximum number of illegal establishments are located in the older parts of the city, including Laxmi Nagar, Shivaji Park, Hari Nagar, Sanjay Gram, Krishna Colony, Jyoti Park, Rajendra Colony, Sirhaul and others.

The situation is worse in the 900-metre zone near the ammunition depot and illegal construction is going on here despite the order from the Punjab and Haryana high court.

However, the municipal corporation is taking stringent actions against illegal structures. The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram carried out 126 sealing drives from April 2018 to February 2019 and also issued notices to 846 while demolishing 141 structures.

In addition to this, MCG issued 389 demolition orders during this period apart from removing 2,489 temporary structures.

Earlier, Yashpal Yadav, MCG commissioner said that the encroachers will also be penalized for the expenses incurred during demolition drive and they will not be left with demolished structures.

The commissioner also said that the offender has to pay the charges along with property tax in case he/she refuses to pay the charge.
