The Maharashtra State Government offered huge relief to the residents of MHADA and CIDCO housing societies as the state cabinet decided to waive off the additional non-Agriculture tax that was imposed on the citizens.

At present, the residential societies developed on MHADA or CIDCO land covering an area of over 8 hectares upto 12 hectares were supposed to pay 1.5 times of the additional tax. This additional tax was levied under the increased land revenue Act which got waived off by the State Cabinet recently.

Similar to this, the cabinet also exempted the 2x additional tax that was imposed on land covering an area of over 12 hectares. This tax was imposed on both MHADA and CIDCO which they were forwarding to the housing societies. An official said that these residential societies didn’t have land ownership and still they are being charged at a high rate.

Adhik Patil, Thane collector was quoted saying, that the administration directed CIDCO to provide land records of the allotted plots. In revert to which they have given details of merely 500 plots. The City and Industrial Corporation [CIDCO] don’t have any online records of the allotted plots. While the planning authority of Navi Mumbai still owns the complete land in Mumbai that too with 7/12 extract.

DM Garad, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation [NMMC] was quoted saying that the residential societies such as SBI Colony, BOI Colony, Air India, Railway Colony, Income Tax colony in NMMC area fall under this division. He also said that the revenue department is allowed to collect Non-Agricultural tax here.
