The Indore Municipal Corporation is all set to take action against the property owners with wrong records. The civic body has decided to penalize the residents who don’t update property records. The authority has planned to charge five times of the due amount from the faulty property owners.

The Indore Municipal Corporation has decided to take this action after receiving applications from nearly 2300 people who claimed of receiving bills for inaccurate assessment of their properties.

Earlier, the civic body conducted a GIS i.e. geographical information system survey of all registered properties. According to this survey, nearly 59000 properties were found to be higher than what was described in the records. For the current financial year, the Indore municipal corporation has issued notices to pay tax against such property owners.

Sumitra Mahajan, the Lok Sabha speaker has taken this issue into notice as approximately 2300 property owners have complained about the wrong assessment of their assets.

The officials of the civic body said that all applications are accepted and the Indore civic body has decided to carry out a fresh survey of these properties.

Asheesh Singh, Municipal commissioner informed that we have decided to conduct a fresh survey of the properties on which the owners have raised objections. The bills were issued on the ground of GIS survey report and we will also crosscheck the records of these properties with the zonal officials.

He also informed that the faulty property owners with 10 percent or more have to pay five times fee of the actual property tax.

The officials of the civic body said that out of these 23000 properties, 75 percent are residential and 25 percent the commercial property.
