In Surat, traffic Police issued a notice to nearly 108 residential societies in multiple areas of the city for not allowing the guests to park their vehicles inside their society premises.

Satish Sharma, Police Commissioner directed action against the societies as they can’t restrict the parking of guests’ vehicles inside the premises. Commissioner assured the members of action after few of them raised concerns regarding the same in Road Safety Council meeting.

Prior to sending notice, the police conducted a survey of localities like Vesu, VIP Road, Varachha, Punagam, Yogi Chowk and Mota Varachha. The police also removed the notices on display at various societies that visitors are not allowed to park the vehicle inside.

Sudhir Desai, deputy commissioner of police, traffic said that after directives from the police commissioner, we began the drive and identified such societies. Also, we awarded notices to them and removed the warning boards that restrict the visitors from parking inside the society premises.

The On-road parking in maximum number of residential societies has become a major cause of problem. Apart from the guests/visitors, the residents also use the public roads to park their vehicles and this result in traffic jam.

The Traffic police is taking strict actions in commercial areas however the issue of unauthorised parking goes unnoticed in the residential areas.
