SDMC i.e. the South Delhi Municipal Corporation plans to introduce an amnesty scheme in the next two months to offer property tax rebate in several illegal colonies till the fiscal year 2016-17.

Bhupinder Gupta, SDMC standing committee chairman directed the concerned department to draft a policy to offer relaxation to the property owners of unauthorized colonies, rural and urban villages.

He then said that the South Delhi Municipal Corporation had provided such relief to the property owners of residential units in authorized colonies and now SDMC aims to provide a property tax rebate to those living in illegal residential units in Delhi. The decision is taken as these property owners are not in a good financial condition.

Gupta further added that the concerned departments are directed to accept self-declaration of property owners since the year of possession. It will act as a certificate to calculate property tax. This decision is a result of a long decision that includes an increase in tax. Other than this, these property owners have been paying the property tax in Delhi regularly.

While showing the audit report, Kamaljeet Sherawat, leader of the house informed about the outstanding amount of Rs.600 crore from the Delhi Development Authority i.e. DDA. The report shows that the South Delhi Municipal Corporation is yet to collect the property tax of Rs. 1,177.5 crore from all including the private and Government entities.
