In a major development, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has ordered six developers to complete construction of flats for the low-income group (LIG) and economically weaker sections (EWS) by March. The announcement has been made after the revelation of a recent survey wherein it was found that over 4,700 such flats are pending with these builders.

The survey revealed that no progress has been made so far in these projects which are creating problem for the home buyers. According to officials from GDA, from now onwards, every fortnight the progress of these projects will be monitored by the development agency and if these developers fail to meet the deadline, heavy penalty will be imposed on them.

Giving more information on the same, VN Singh, OSD to GDA said, “We have identified six developers who have faltered in handing over flats to beneficiaries under the EWS and LIG schemes. While a renowned group has to deliver 500 LIG and 432 EWS flats near NH-24, Crossings Infrastructure is supposed to build 496 EWS and 466 LIG apartments,”

Other developers in this list include Samag who has to deliver 360 flats each under LIG and EWS schemes, SMV and Agarwal Associates who have to build 220 LIG and 209 EWS flats, and 24 LIG and 236 EWS flats respectively. Another realtor, Ansals has to deliver 208 LIG and 256 EWS flats.

“All these developers have been given time till March 2019 and GDA will keep an eye on the development of each and every project.” VN Singh added.

The central Government has passed an order in 2012 which says that all government, private and cooperative housing schemes above 3,000 sqm area are required to allocate allot 20% of total dwelling units to people from EWS (10%) and LIG category (10%).
