To accomplish the government’s mission of Housing for all by 2022, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has finalized to restructure six more slum areas spread across various areas of the city. The redevelopment is an initiative towards making Delhi Slum-free.

The redevelopment of the slums started with Kathputli Colony and Kalkaji Extension. After the successful completion of the work, the DDA has now decided to move to other slum areas of the city.

According to a DDA official, the slum redevelopment project will be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The six areas where the project will be carried out are Dilshad Garden, Rohini Sectors 18 and 19, Kusumpur Pahadi near Vasant Vihar, Kirti Nagar, and Shalimar Bagh.

Giving more information on the above, Tarun Kapoor, Vice Chairman, DDA said, “Soon, the authority will survey these slums to study the amount and timeframe required to complete the work.”

He also informed that the authority has already hired an agency for the same and once the survey work will be completed, the beneficiaries will be identified according to Delhi Slum and JJ Rehabilitation and Relocation Policy 2015.

The civic body is also planning to hire consultants who can give their expertise and also help in preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of each area. Other than this, the consultant will also help in the preparation of feasibility reports and bid documents.

However, DDA has already selected a consultant for the slum rehabilitation project to be carried out at Dilshad Garden.

At present, there are 675 slums in the capital. Out of this, nearly 499 are already developed on government land. For the rest 23 slums, the rehabilitation work will be carried out in various phases. Once the development work will be completed the beneficiaries will be allotted their respective residential units with all the basic services.
