The Chandigarh administration considered the long-pending demand of the city industrialists to transfer leasehold properties to freehold has been forwarded to the union ministry of home affairs [MHA].
The industrialists are demanding to transfer the same in Industrial area phase I and II.
Kirron Kher, the Member of Parliament informed that the issue of transferring leasehold properties to freehold has been forwarded to the center and action on the same will be taken soon.
The administration of Chandigarh has formed two committees out of which one will look into the Industrialists pending demands and other will work on the pending demands of the traders.
In 1983, the administration had transferred the leasehold plots into freehold under the commercial category.
Kirron Kher, the Member of Parliament has taken up the issue with Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD). She also said that this is long-pending demand of the city industrialists.
The Chandigarh administration has recently conducted a survey in the Industrial area to check leasehold plots.
In 1970s, the administration had set up Phases I and II of the Industrial Area in 147 acres. The zoning and architectural control govern these plots that were prepared while considering the then time period.
In total there are 1,884 plots in both the phases out of which 700 are 1 kanal and above, whereas the remaining are 443 and 180 plots that are measured in 10 and 15 Marla, respectively.
In 5 Marla, there are 381 plots in total.
