The Narendra Modi-led Central Government has planned to award the best performing States and Union Territories under the Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojna [Urban] for proper implementation and innovation. The decision has been taken now as the construction of nearly 15 lakh houses is completed out of the targeted one crore houses since the launch of this flagship programme of housing for All.

The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry informed that the decision to award the best performing States and Union Territories is taken to encourage them for the construction and proper implementation of the scheme in order to provide housing for all the citizens by the set deadline.

The ministry also said that the decision is taken to offer few special category awards to the States and UTs for innovative technology in construction, community mobilization, slum redevelopment, policy initiatives and project monitoring.

The monthly incremental process on vital parameters is one of the factors that will determine the ranking of States and Union Territories for awards under the PMAY [Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojna]. The more weights on these factors will make the State, Union Territory win awards from the Central Government.

The Union Housing and Development ministry is responsible for proper implementation and completion of the Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojna that is the dream project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the aim to offer Housing for All by 2022.

The special provision has been made to offer opportunity to the slow progressing States and UTs in order to improve their performances as it increase their chances to win accolades.

In a statement, the ministry said that the ranking of states and UTs will be made public every month to create a competitive environment among stakeholders. The Statement further said that under PMAY (U), we have approved 73 lakhs housing units out of the total one crore home.

A special event will be organized in the national capital to offer awards to the winning States and Union Territories. The ministry also informed that the event will happen in June.
