AMC i.e. the Agra Municipal Corporation is planning to make use of GIS mapping that the Geographic Information System to increase house tax collection. According to the new plan, all the residential and commercial properties in the Agra city will be mapped via this new technology.

With the use of this technology, the civic body officials can fetch property details of 100 wards on their computer screen in a few minutes. Regarding the same, the state urban development department called a meeting with the senior officials of the municipal corporations in Lucknow today.

The municipal corporation launched a city-wide GIS mapping last year and figured out that there are nearly three lakh properties in the city. Out of these three lac properties, only 1.8 lakh properties are registered with the Agra Municipal Corporation and the 1.05 lakh property owners have outstanding tax dues.

As per a recent survey, the Agra civic body is not receiving property tax for 30,400 properties of Lohamandi zone, 21,511 of Chatta zone, 15,466 of Tajganj zone and 38,408 of Hariparwat Zone. The civic body will send notice to these property owners before conducting GIS mapping.

Arun Prakash, Municipal commissioner, said that the GIS mapping of properties will ensure smooth completion of the tax collection process as the tax details of each property in the city will be available online.

Earlier in March this year, the Municipal Commissioner of Agra Municipal Corporation [AMC] issued a notice to 12 tax officials as they failed to meet the target revenue collection from property tax and told them to achieve the set targets in next seven days.

In 2018, the Uttar Pradesh State Government directed the municipal corporations to become self-sufficient to fund by increasing revenue collection. The Agra Municipal Corporation should have collected Rs. 50 crore as the property tax collection by 15th March but they have collected Rs. 43 crore only till now.

Rakesh Jain, a councillor said that the property tax collection is being collected at a slow pace and mismanagement of the officials is the reason behind this.  He also said that this year also the Agra Municipal Corporation is most likely to miss the target.

Arun Prakash, Municipal Corporation said that the tax department officials are warned of stringent action for negligence to recover house tax collection. We have sent notice to 12 officials for their slow collection of property tax.
