In order to serve the Delhiites better, NDMC [New Delhi Municipal Corporation] is planning to allot unique identity number to the housing units falling under its vicinity. The civic body is working on unique addressing system known as DDN project. Under this new system, the authority will issue digital door number to every residential property to keep land records at one place and the proposed system will also enable the authority to collect the data for the capital city in the least time possible.

The  [DDN] project will build a uniform address database system with the help of cloud computing technologies and geospatial technique. The unique identity number will be an alpha-numeric code which consists of information on the exact location of the property. The code will also have details related to the property such as the main road, sub-road, landmark, building and floor of the address. This unique number will be fixed with a radio frequency identification and Quick Response [QR]-based plate. The address numbers will be inimitable and will be synced with utility services such as water, electricity, and property tax bills.

The Municipal Corporation is in its preliminary stage and is likely to announce the system in November. This system is estimated to incur rupees 94 lakhs for the period of four years which will be the initial running tenure of the same. A digital platform alias Web portal is also planned to set up where the property owners can login to check municipal bills and taxes. However, the person will require the Unique Identity number to login the portal. Currently, the North and South Delhi Municipal Corporations are running this system for the listing of properties in the online database.

In the past, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation [GHMC] started this DDN project in order to provide a unique smart addressing solution to the citizens. The Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration [CDMA] completed the satellite imagery of properties and geo-tagging successfully in April. This procedure involved all 72-Urban Local Bodies. This project is likely to be completed in coming five months in Hyderabad.

Apart from these civic bodies, Bengaluru and Vijayawada cities are next to implement this project under their respective local authorities.
