CM Devendra Fadnavis launched the pilot project for issuing Land ownership document online in the State. This is a crucial step to authorize land ownership of people, particularly the farmers. The land ownership document is also known as 7/12 extract or 7/12 Utara. The space for a digital signature on this document makes it useful for the official purpose also.
The 7/12 receipt extract is majorly required by the farmers for various purposes such as for loan agreements, crop survey and for availing of multiple facilities offered by the Government. Earlier, this documentation process was manual where the Revenue staff at the State level also known as the Talathis had the power to change details in the documents. Several cases of musing power of being a talathis and demand for bribe from these Government employees raised the need for digitization of the land ownership document.
Chandrakant Patil, the State’s revenue minister said that the Government completed the digitization procedure for eight lakh documents and the remaining documents will go online by August this year. In total, there are 2.46 crore 7/12 extracts across 43,000 villages of the state. He further said that from now onwards the farmers’ only requirement to get this document is of a computer with an internet connection. The annadata as farmers are called in Maharashtra need not visit a Government office to get this property related document issued.
The Maharashtra Government is working towards building a digital record book where the land record/papers for every single village of the state can be kept. This launch of the digitization is the first phase of the pilot project and has been inaugurated in six districts where the CM Devendra Fadnavis distributed the land ownership document online to the farmers of kalyan and Thane region.
