The Kozhikode Municipal Corporation has set up special camps in 55 wards in order to encourage the residents to pay property tax. The facilities are made so that the traders can deposit commercial property tax and this is an initiative to clear all the due property tax amount.
However, the revenue office section holds periodical special camps at extended wards of Velimmadukunnu, Chelavoor, Moozhikkal and Medical College areas. These camps are organized to create awareness among the taxpayers to deposit the tax amount by 31st M arch as it is also the deadline for the same.
Various residents and apartment associations requested the Civic body to organize camp and the Corporation initiated the same. This is also seen as the opportunity given by the Kozhikode Municipal Corporation to the property tax defaulters to clear the due amount without paying fine. Also, the civic body will not impose fine on the due in case the tax defaulter clear the entire outstanding amount in one installment.
Out of the total 75 wards, the civic body organized special camps in 55 wards that fall in the jurisdiction of the old Corporation. These camps are being supervised by the respective revenue inspectors.
The tax collection at the remaining 20 wards is being conducted at their respective zonal offices as these wards fall under the jurisdiction of Cheruvannur-Nallalam, Beypore and Elathur.
After consulting with the residents’ associations in the respective ward the day and time of these camps are finalized. This move has also given relief to the tax collection as they need not face the scorching sun. Usually, the tax collectors have to work from 10am to 2pm.
