The Kerala State Government is planning to notify the Real Estate Regulatory Authority in sometime soon as the issued related to the real estate sector and homebuyers complaints are the main issue of concern. The State Government is likely to issue the notification after the results of general elections are declared on 23rd May.
According to the central act, all RERA members including the chairperson should be appointed by the Government that too on the recommendations made by the selection committee that comprises of the chief justice of the high court or his nominee, the secretary of the department dealing with housing and a law secretary.
In this case, the selection committee formed by the Government has submitted its recommendations and they have suggested two names for the post of chairperson out of this one is a retired additional chief secretary (ACS) and another is currently serving as an additional chief secretary. Apart from this, the committee has also suggested six names for the post of RERA members.
AC Moideen, the Local Self Government Department minister said that the notification for RERA will be issued once the model code of conduct is uplifted.
Kerala, the southern-most State of India is still to form the RERA authority and an appellate tribunal under Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016.
The data of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, under the RERA Act shows that the regulatory authorities of 23 states/UTs have made their portal functional according to the provisions of RERA. Apart from this 40,578 real estate projects and 31,693 real estate agents are registered under the RERA all over the country.
