As, the financial year closure is approaching Jaipur Municipal Corporation has decided to waive off interest on unpaid house tax. Apart from this a 50% waiver is also announced on interest on pending UD tax. This charge is applicable only if the payment is overdue and is paid immediately.
In 2007, the Jaipur Municipal Corporation started a drive to recover pending taxes of worth Rs. 600 crore. No urban development survey took place in the since then as the corporation didn’t found any suitable agency to conduct a survey in the city that has a population of more than 30 lakh.
According to the officials at the municipal corporation, they have not collected 50 percent that is half of the unpaid tax amount till now.
The officials also said that we have collected Rs. 29 crore in UD tax which is even 50 percent lesser than what was collected in the last financial year. The municipal corporation collected Rs. 65 crore last year.
In order to recover the unpaid tax, the Jaipur Municipal Corporation seized five restaurants in Vidhyadhar Nagar and Amber zone area as a total of Rs. 23 lakh is due from a long time.
The officials said that the corporation plans to seize more properties in order to recover the unpaid tax amount.
Niramala Sharma, chairman of UD Tax committee at the corporation said that we have decided to form teams of four members each and this will include a civil engineer, assessor, helper and revenue officer. These teams will go to recover the UD tax. Apart from this, we have planned to set up camps in all zones to recover the unpaid tax amount.
These teams will take stringent actions against the properties owners who are yet to pay tax of more Rs. 3 crore or 5 crores.
The corporation said that we have asked the State Government to waive off the interest on the unpaid tax in order to encourage the taxpayers to pay the outstanding principle.
