From now the new layouts under the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited [TANGEDO] will have to reserve 0.5% of the area to set up the electrical infrastructure.
The Government in its order of 18th May said that according to the Tamil Nadu Combined Development and Building Rules, 2019, it is mandatory to transfer 0.5% of the layout to TANGEDO via registered gift deed. This transfer should be carried out before sanctioning the layout.
Following the same, the land will be registered only after the site inspection by the superintendent engineer (SE) and also his/her confirmation of the technical stability is necessary for the registration.
The order also stated that the board will maintain the gift deed in safe custody if the requirement for infrastructural development in the layout area is not required immediately.
One of the TANGEDO officials said that this move will prove beneficial to expand power infrastructure and also for giving new connections. The official further said that the authority is facing difficulties to search a place for installing transformers and also for developing other infrastructure.
The activists have welcomed this move and said that the planning department and registration department should implement these norms strictly in order to minimize malpractices as people approach to the electricity board after developing buildings to a greater extent.
The activists also said that according to the act, electricity connection can only be given if the owner or developer has the license to construct the building. But no one is taking the rules seriously.
