In Gurugram, the department of town and country planning [DTCP] will get the support of local police to keep track of unauthorized structures that are being developed as they lead to unplanned development. Approximately 40 police stations in the city will share reports regularly with the department for taking action against such structures.

DTCP is already having lesser staff and had approached the city police for help on the issue of unauthorized structures. The city police said that the presence of various illegal guesthouses is a concern related to the law and order situation as they allow people to accommodate without checking their identities. In July, a Nigerian couple was arrested from a guest house in DLF -1, Gurugram by the Agra police for their alleged involvement in an online fraud.

Sudhir Chouhan, a senior town planner said that the department has initiated a drive against unauthorized structures in the city and also asked the local police if they can help us to track such activities in the city. He also said that the local police have a presence in the city and ample manpower across the district. Other than this, the police also know about of activities that take place in all the localities and hence searching for illegal structures in the city will be easier for them.

Chouhan also said that the department will take necessary actions after receiving reports of such unauthorized constructions. The police can send the details of illegals structures in the HUDA area. The department will take action only after sharing details with the Haryana Urban Development Authority [HUDA].

Arvind Sharma, a legal officer of DTCP (enforcement), said according to the Urban Area Act, the police have to alert the department about the violation of the norms and act. The department is also in talks with the private agencies to conduct regular survey across the city to track illegal development.
