The Government of Goa has urged to MahaRERA [Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority] to hear cases on the behalf of GoaRERA.

According to an official, the Maharashtra Government has to take a final call on the request however a very few cases are registered with the GoaRERA authority.

At present, the GoaRERA is managed by a single official named Sudhir Mahajan that too on an initial basis. However, the members are short-listed to form the GoaRERA which will work on a full-time basis. The official also said that the Goa requested us to hear cases after receiving 20 complaints two months ago.

According to the legislation, a person can plea in the RERA appellate authority if he/she is not satisfied with the order passed by the authority. This plea can be filed in the Goa bench of Bombay High Court.

The MahaRERA authority was also praised for resolving a maximum number of cases filed with the RERA authority and they are still positioned at the top for registering the highest number of properties. Till now, MahaRERA received exactly 19,202 applications for registration of new projects, and more than 650 cases are registered with the appellate tribunal.

Out of these, MahaRERA is hearing 184 cases and the orders have been issued to hear more 177 cases.

The RERA Act [Real Estate Regulation and Development Act], came into implementation on 1st May, 2016, with the aim to create tribunals to resolve all property-related issues and to offer quick relief to the homebuyers by ordering a fair judgement.

An appellate tribunal was formed for MahaRERA in May 2018 and Justice Indira Jain was appointed as the president of the tribunal. Similarly, Sumant Kolhe was named as the judicial member and S S Sandhu as the technical and administrative member of MahaRERA appellate tribunal.
