The Gautam Budh Nagar has recently acquired the first share of land for the upcoming International Airport at Jewar. According to the officials, the administration has acquired 80 hectares of the farmland and handed it over to the Yamuna Expressway Authority (YEIDA).
Giving more details on the above development, BN Singh, DM, Gautam Budh Nagar said, “The project implementing authority has decided to develop the upcoming airport in various phases. For the first phase, 1253 hectare of land is to be acquired. The administration has got hold over 80 hectares of land and handed it to the project implementing authority.”
The land parcel was acquired from the Ranhera village in the presence of farmers, Jewar airport project officials and District administration officials.
On May 30, NIAL, the main authority looking after the development of the project has issued global tender bids to appoint development body for the Jewar Airport. As many as 16 leading bidders from all over the world have applied and showed interest in the project. These bidders include GVK Group, Bengaluru airport owner Fairfax India, sovereign wealth fund NIIF, Reliance Infra, GMR Infra, Adani Group, Hong Kong ADP, and Zurich Airport International.
Last month only, all these bidders participated in the pre-bid conference has shared their queries with the project implementing authority. The agency has transferred these issues to the project monitoring committee so that it can be answered soon.
The bid winners will be announced by November this year and the work on the airport will start by early 2020, informed Singh.
The state government is expecting to start the operation of the first phase with four runways by 2023. The upcoming airport is touted as the biggest airport in the country till date. Once completed, it will lessen the passenger traffic of the IGI Airport and will also boost the real estate market of Yamuna Expressway.
