In order to help residents who were not able to submit the property tax on time, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation has extended the last date of tax submission under the amnesty scheme. Now the deadline is March 31, 2019.
Giving more details on the above, a senior EDMC official said, “We have extended the amnesty scheme to pay property tax till the end of March as of earlier February 28 for the property owners of East Delhi.”
He further said that in east Delhi there are many unauthorized colonies as well as regularized colonies. So, residents here were not paying taxes. In order to bring them under the tax regime, we have planned to extend the submission dates.
Under the amnesty scheme, a property owner does not have to pay any penalty or interest if they have not submitted the property tax dues on time.
However, talking about other civic bodies of the National capital Territory, like North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), they have already announced this scheme earlier so as to cover all the defaulters who have not paid tax since 2004.
In South Delhi, there are many rural-urban areas and urban villages who were earlier not under the tax net.
Last year also, all the three civic bodies i.e. EDMC, NDMC, and SDMC have announced the amnesty scheme so that more and more owners should pay property tax as well as should add more to the civic body’s income.
