In a recent development, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been asked to prepare a fresh Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Delhi Metro Phase-3 Corridor. The decision has been taken in order to enhance and facilitate seamless connectivity of the route with other multimodal transportation system proposed in the city and surrounding regions.
The third phase of the Delhi Metro will connect Noida Electronic City with newly-started Mohan Nagar line in Ghaziabad. The DMRC has given its approval to plan the necessary changes in the project at mattress makers. It is also stated that the new DPR and the change will increase the overall cost of the project by Rs 1,866 crore.
According to a senior DMRC official, the changes in the route map will help in better and smooth integration with the proposed Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) station at Sahibabad, which is the part of Delhi-Meerut RRTS.
The DMRC official informed, “As per the new alignment, the proposed metro station at Sector-2, Vasundhara, would be shifted towards Sahibabad on Link Road which will reduce the distance with the proposed Sahibabad RRTS station. With this, the distance between both the stations will become less than 200 meters. We are also proposing a skywalk that would further link both the stations together.”
The new DPR will provide smooth connectivity to the commuters as according to the current DPR, the distance between Vasundhara Sector- 2 metro station and Sahibabad RRTS is approximately 1.6 km. With such a long distance, the construction of a skywalk is also impossible.
Earlier in February 2018, the DMRC has submitted DPR to the Ghaziabad Development Authority for the same route. But GDA has asked for some recommendations. So, this is the second time DMRC is making changes in the DPR.
