In a recent development, DIAL i.e. the Delhi International Airport Pvt Ltd proposed to construct a Y-shaped flyover to decongest the vehicular traffic from where the commuters turn left to reach Terminal-3 (T3) or to go straight till T1.
The authority also plans to construct an underpass to connect Aerocity with T1 and T3.
A senior official said that Delhi International Airport Pvt Ltd (DIAL) tabled a proposal to construct a Y-shaped flyover to make commutation congestion-free on the road that link IGI Airport’s Terminal-1 to T3. The proposed flyover is designed to have a junction from where commuters can either turn left to reach T3 else can go straight towards T1. The Y-shaped flyover will be a signal-free zone.
DIAL gave a presentation of the proposed flyover to the Aviation Secretary, PS Kharola and informed that the estimated cost of this infrastructural development will be around Rs. 440 crore and financial assistance on the project in the later stage can be need from the Delhi Development Authority i.e. DDA.
The airport authority also tabled a proposal to build an underpass at the Radisson flyover and the Gurgaon Expressway to link the Northern Access Road to Vasant Kunj Marg. This underpass is expected to decongest the Mahipalpur stretch.
The Delhi International Airport Limited also plans to develop an air train by 2020 to make travel secure for the passengers.
This air train will be developed underground and will cover a distance of 5.1 km between T1 and Aerocity. However, it will take an elevated route from Aerocity to T3.
DIAL is exploring options to raise funds for the air train project that is estimated to be built at Rs 2,500 crore.
