In Chandigarh recently, the MC tax branch issued the attachment orders for exactly 40 commercial properties in the city and out of theses the unlawful establishments are directed to pay their dues within 15 days as the authority will seal these buildings in case the owners fail to pay tax in the given time period.
According to the sources, the department issued attachment orders after these establishments failed to pay taxes and were also not responding to the repeatedly issued recovery notice by the MC tax branch.
The notice has been issued to the commercial establishments located in Sectors 28, 38, Industrial Area, Daddumajra colony, 38-C, 37-C, 32-D, 23, 11, 15, Manimajra, 29, 21 and Indira Colony.
The sources also said that the civic body has already sent more than 200 attachment orders in the past month and a maximum number of property owners paid their dues.
The MC tax branch is hopeful that people will deposit their dues for the commercial establishments in the given time.
The department has sent recovery notices to commercial as well as to the residential properties as both an important source of revenue generation for the MC tax branch. Thus, the department is focusing on the commercial areas too.
Earlier last month, the Chandigarh civic body planned to take stringent actions against illegal construction in the city, Panchkula and Mohali. The civic body took this decision after the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed to remove all encroachments from the Government land at the earliest.
