In order to convert leasehold properties into freehold in the Industrial area phase I and II, the Chandigarh administration has finalized the proposal.
According to the sources, the administration of this Union Territory will forward the same proposal to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to seek final sanction.
Kirron Kher, the Member of Parliament recently, declared that they will be sending the same proposal to the Union ministry for sanction. She also raised concerns over this issue with the Urban Development Ministry.
Earlier this month, the administration formed two separate committees that will look after each issue including the pending demands of Industrialists and to hear traders pending demand.
The last conversion from freehold to leasehold in the capital city of Punjab and Haryana took place in 1983 that too in the commercial category.
The administration has also conducted a survey of the Industrial area to check for leasehold plots.
The Industrial areas Phase I and II are set up by the administration in 1970s. These phases are set on an area of 147 acres. The zoning and architectural control administer these plots and are prepared according to the conditions.
In total there are 1,884 plots out of which 700 are in 1 kanal and above. Others include 443 and 180 plots measure into 10 and 15 Marla, respectively.
In 5 Marla there are nearly 381 plots.
MP Kirron Kher had recently informed that some action will be taken on the issue.
