In a recent development, the Aviation Ministry on April 23, has given their In- Principle approval to construct the second airport of Delhi-NCR in Jewar. The Project Monitoring and Implementation Committee set up by the Centre to oversee timely development of the Greenfield Noida International Airport have granted their nod so that YEIDA can initiate the procedure of Land acquisition.
Sharing this information on twitter, Prabhat Kumar, Chairman of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) wrote, “Happy to inform that Steering Committee headed by Secretary Civil Aviation, GOI today in its meeting considered proposal for In-Principle approval of Jewar Airport and have granted In- Principle approval. Another important mile stone successfully cleared by Jewar Airport.”
Last week, the UP government has formed an expert committee to complete the necessary formalities of land acquisition along the Yamuna Expressway. The seven-member committee will take meeting with farmers of the villages where agricultural land needs to be acquired. Once the process will be completed, district administration will start the land acquisition process by June.
An 11 member committee has also been formed by the state government headed by the chief secretary. The committee will monitor and expedite the progress of the Jewar airport project.
The Civil aviation ministry and the state government have also planned to put the foundation stone of the project by October 2018, so as to make the NCRs second airport fully functional by 2022-23. Once operational, the airport will cater to cater 80 million passengers.
The Jewar airport project is one of the most ambitious projects of both center and state. As of now, around 5,000 hectare land has been identified by YEIDA for the project, out of which the first phase of land acquisition measuring 1,327 hectare will be used for the construction of terminal buildings and runways.
